Grand Seiko is offering the new Hi-Beat 36,000 GMT in three references, the black dial SBGJ003, the white dial SBGJ001 and the limited edition SBGJ005 which sports a lovely green dial with a yellow GMT hand.
Bremont claims that someone was trying to sabotage the release. When Bremont released news about the Bremont Wright Flyer watch and BWC/01 movement that was purportedly made and developed by them, someone immediately began to compare the movement to those made by Swiss La Joux-Perret. Watch companies often work with specialized companies to produce new movements, so what was the big deal? The issue was that the language used by Bremont was confusing enough that people believed Bremont was suggesting the movement was designed and produced entirely by them in England. The press release says "the BWC/01, designed and developed in Britain." They however claim that someone who acquired documents about the movement in advance played up information that was not true and attempted to stir a hornets' nest.

MS: As I mentioned, I entered the industry in 1995 at Omega. I was not an expert or a collector at that time. I was looking at watches with interest but in a superficial way. Watches then entered in my life in a strong way and I feel now completely involved.Read more ›
It's with tools like these that we're able to see the leaps in functionality and design that modern watches have brought to the table. So if you've wondered why the last two decades have seen watches historically never possible, this is why. With increasingly advanced 3D modelling tools added to the arsenal of watch creators, there's no telling what we might end up seeing coming down the line. franckmuller.com
Over the years, Hublot has produced timepieces that have featured an array of rare or unique materials not often seen in watch making, such as tungsten or magnesium, and developed their own materials and alloys such as King Gold and Magic Gold. The pursuit of new and unique materials for horology is really the search for emotion and exclusivity. As one of the ultimate lifestyle brands, Hublot wanted to do something special and very difficult for the 10th anniversary of the Big Bang.

Some of the modern elements (aside from the movement) include the many dashes of red on the dial. I must admit that the amount of red color on the dial worried me before seeing the watch in person - but after getting some hands-on time I was relieved that in real life the red isn't too distracting or overbearing in relation to the overall design.Read more ›
The deal isn't as sweet as before, but the watch is arguably more elegant and beautiful, even though the theme is the same. The watchmaker behind the GMT-3 and now the Luna is Mr. Vincent Plomb. In addition to being a rather impressive watchmaker, Vincent is also disabled being in a wheelchair (for his entire life I believe). I think you'll agree that being a watchmaker and starting your own brand is courageous enough, but for a person who has likely had some extra challenges in life, this is a feat that at least earns my respect. So let's see what the Luna is all about.

FPJ: Grand strike clock watches were previously extremely delicate to use, with the least wrong manipulation proving fatal to the mechanism - for instance, setting the time while the chimes were ringing. My objective was to construct a grand strike that could be used by a child without any risk of damage. This goal was one of the most difficult in my career, and certainly the one that has given me the widest challenge.
But let's not get sidetracked here. When it comes to creating a new piece from scratch (which is the case in all instances) what Molnar Fabry will do is consult the customer to discuss the defining characteristics of the new project. This is followed by negotiations that concern even the slightest of details and the design is sent back and forth right up to the point when the new design is in complete harmony with the customer's demands. The result is a one of a kind, unique piece – and unique it is, in the truest sense of the word. Upon my visit they had two finished watches that they could show and which actually were their own pieces. Unlike some other pieces from the duo which showcase softer, more "romantic" aesthetics, these two watches were unquestionably modern-looking, blending angular and minimalistic design with what I would call architectural elements.
It may even be morally wrong to have a favorite watch. Philosophically, I am not exactly a proponent of moral edicts, but I do feel an ethical obligation to my readers to be open-minded. This is especially true given my role as someone who helps frame opinion and inform people on a variety of new watches. Sometimes my work is suggested to be akin to that of a movie or art critic. That would indicate my role is to give people the tools and condensed summary of products so that they can best determine for themselves what is worthy of their own investment. Not to tell people that they need to like what I like. Naturally, I will have my own tastes and preferences and am not expected to be completely neutral. The best critics are those with very strong opinions. My preferences exist to allow people to agree or disagree with me, but my value is in offering an insight that people can incorporate into their own sense of good taste.Read more ›

While we could sense they were very excited about it, they remained extremely secretive about it until this very moment: today it became official that the brand will start a unique collaboration with the absolutely remarkable rock band The Rolling Stones. We will note that deep inside we had hoped they would not repeat the rather upsetting fiasco of the limited edition in part dedicated to Che Guevara… and to our most pleasant surprise they went for this much more positively exciting collaboration. The first piece dedicated to this partnership is the Zenith El Primero Chronomaster 1969 Tribute To The Rolling Stones.
Jacques Fournier: The case design is different and complicated, I am certainly happy about a lot of things and particularly satisfied with the overall production finish. What I am most proud of is the identity of the brand. I feel Wryst is already identified as a privileged opportunity to purchase a bold sport timepiece with a newish and futuristic style. I hope people understand that my goal is to never give up offering innovative timepieces which are an alternative for collectors interested in owning something "different." I know my watches are not typical looking, and that is the point.
Given that the Zeitwerk Striking isn't the obvious choice when people think of Lange, I feel that people under-represent how cool it is, especially technically. And even if adding a quarter striker to a timepiece such as this feels random, it still makes a neat watch all that much more interesting.Read more ›
Leonid Khankin (LK): I am the Creative & Managing Director of Ernst Benz. I am also a second generation watchmaker who grew up doing restoration, specializing in chronographs and complications.
